Ilford 0 Enfield Town 1 at Cricklefields Stadium
Ryman League Division One North
Faisal Iqbal Reports
Ilford suffered a home defeat today in the Ryman League Division One North against Enfield Town.
It was an action packed half which presented both sides with chances to score. Enfield’s Wallace who was to be a right handful for Ilford’s defenders had an early chance to score but dragged a shot wide of the post minutes into the game.
Next Ilford’s Carl Paul almost scored an own goal from a Sam Byfield cross which Rob Budd in goal did well to keep out.
After Ilford’s Sam Adejokun had a shot go over the bar, Enfield’s Liam Hope blew two chances in a matter of seconds as he scrambled a volley against the bar from a corner and failed to head a simple chance in from a cross into the box seconds later.
Seconds before half time, Adejokun somehow missed an easy chance inside the penalty area when unmarked. It would have been the dream end to the half for the Foxes. Colin Walton’s side got of to the worst start possible in the second half when Enfield went ahead when targetman Wallace scrambled home a shot in front of goal after a corner caused confusion in the Ilford defence.
Although Ilford tried hard to get back in the game they could not create a real decisive change which allowed Enfield to grab their third win of the season. Ilford still have only the one point which was picked up in their opening day draw vs Waltham Forest.
Ilford’s next match is a local derby away to Grays Athletic on Wednesday. With the current state that Grays are in, Ilford will be hoping to capitalise and get a result. After that the Foxes face Maldon & Tiptree at home in the FA Cup next Saturday in what should be a close game of football.
