Romford 0 Aveley 4
THREE GOALS IN 17 second half minutes sealed the fate of Romford in this landlord versus tenant friendly.
Aveley saw a welcome return of centre half Sean Francis after his arrival on loan from Braintree.
The first was very even with little to separate either side as Scott Pethers went close for the Millers, being denied by former keeper Adam Rafis.
Romford went close through a deflected effort which keeper Lloyd Armstrong done well to save.
Romford continued to threaten and Armstrong could only watch as a header just sailed over.
But just before the break Aveley were awarded a penalty after handball in the area and David Knight sent Rafis the wrong way.
After the interval both sides made changes but it was Aveley who were to dominate and after Luke Coleman’s original shot was saved Adrian Graham coolly slotted home from close range.
And a minute later the lead was three after Coleman was able to find the net this time and condemn Romford to defeat.
The Millers finished the game in style as Charlie Reed found space in the box and fired a shot past Rafis from Alfie Wren’s corner.
Aveley have arranged another friendly to add to their list with an encounter against Dartford at Mill Field on Thursday.
Aveley: Lloyd Anderson, Scott Pethers, Andy Howells Tony Russell, Sean Francis, Mark Gobel, Darren Quinton, Danny Slatter, David Knight, Billy Holland, Clydie Roberts.
Second half: Lloyd Anderson, Wayne Semanshia, Steve Springett, Tony Russell, Sean Francis, Ashley Hawkins, Adrian Graham, Danny Slatter, Clydie Roberts, Billy Hunt, Luke Coleman, Alfie Wren.
Summer News
The Mill Field merry-go-round is underway with five players following Rod Stringer to Braintree. As predicted (below) Martin Tuohy has departed, along with midfielder Nicky Symons and defenders, Ryan Doyle, Sam Holloway and Michael Alaile. Also off to pastures new is Danny Gabriel, the former Waltham Forest striker has moved to Essex rivals Brentwood Town.
Aveley have named Alan Kimble as their new manager. His brother Garry will be his assistant at Mill Field.. Kimble made 550 League appearances, primarily for Cambridge United and Wimbledon, but also had short spells with Charlton, Luton, Dagenham & Redbridge and Peterborough United. He’s spent the past four years as assistant manager at Ebbsfleet United. (27/5)
Aveley striker Martin Tuohy is likely to leave the club over the summer.
Tuohy, who netted nine goals in the Ryman Premier to finish as Millers’ top scorer last season, has long been a target for Margate and was reportedly engaged in talks with boss Iain O’Connell last week.
But former Aveley manager Rod Stringer – who took over at Blue Square South side Braintree Town at the weekend – is said to be keen to take Tuohy with him. (18/5)
