Aveley 2 Maidstone United 0 at Mill Field
Ryman League Premier Division
A good win at Mill Field puts Aveley on level points with today’s opponents Maidstone United.
An early goal from Captain Ryan Doyle and a second half strike from Martin Tuohy secured three points for the Millers.
Aveley started the game brightly forcing a series of corners in the first few minutes of the match. From the third of these Ryan Doyle put the home side in front, volleying the ball past stricken Maidstone keeper Jamie Turner from the edge of the box.
Aveley continued to dominate the game playing some really nice football, just as they looked to be cruising towards half time Maidstone came into the game. Aveley keeper Oliver Morris-Sanders did well to hold Keelan Moon’s shot before making a crucial challenge on Dean Hernandez Bradshaw with the midfielder set to shot from 6 yards. Steve Butterworth should have doubled the Millers advantage on half time, Sherwin Stanley played him in one on one via a clever back hill and Butterworth in lots of space shot tamely straight at Turner’s feet.
In the second half both sides created half chances but few clear cut ones. Aveley had chances through Stanley and Matt Johnson’s shot from the edge, Nicky Symons long range effort and Tuohy’s header striking the wrong side of the post from a tight angle. For Maidstone Danny Hockton’s header was well held while Jay Saunders shot narrowly wide from just inside the Aveley box.
The home side put the game beyond doubt on 63 minutes through Martin Tuohy. Stanley played a smart pass over Maidstone’s defence, Tuohy ran onto the pass and lobbed the advancing Turner from 25 yards.
The visitors failed to fully test Morris-Saunders until the 88th minute when substitute Lynden Rowland headers was pulled out of the bottom corner by the Aveley keeper.
A great three points for Aveley which pushes the club away from the bottom half of the table and towards mid-table security.
